Braving the Winter Cold

December 28th, 2009

It’s been a busy few days but overall it has been quite enjoyable. In just a few minutes I’m heading out into the frosty winter air with Richard to see Clint Eastwood’s “Invictus“. I had just enough time to post a “pop-in, say hi, and leave again” post :)

How have your holidays been so far? Any major plans for New Year’s? We’re not sure yet what’s happening on New Year’s Eve and Day so I’m hoping hearing about your plans will trigger ideas for my own!

Braving the winter cold? My puppy went out this morning, then turned around and gave me a big “WTF are you making me do?” look. “Can’t we move somewhere warm, somewhere that isn’t the coldest place in the continental US?”

During my college years, a friend of mine posted this definition on her door during a January “arctic clipper” :

“Fucking Freezing: the temperature at which two bodies in motion no longer generate enough heat to remain in motion.”

As for NYE: I’m going (you guessed it) dancing.

    Lady Julia,

I hope you have a great new year.

I am going to try and stay warm. It is single digits here. We have received nearly two feet of snow. I am already tired of shoveling. Any ideas on staying warm. :-)

My daughter’s came by for a visit. We went to the local IMAX theater to see Avatar. It is a good movie, but I like that sort of thing. My daughter’s said they liked it (or were they being nice), but they wished it was shorter. We all agreed the movie should be shorter and that the writing could have been a little better. We also agreed it is best to see it on the biggest screen possible. The world Cameron created was breathtaking. Best computer graphics I have seen to date. Plus I like the message the movie delivers. Even if it is a bit hokey.

I love IMAX movies. I might go see the documentary on repairing the Hubble telescope. It is nice to see other places when it is cold outside.

    Hello Lady Julia,

We have been lucky to enjoy a few days with our four children at home in Oz. It had been over a year since we were all together as we have been spread all over the world.

Hope your next year is a great one. I have not posted for some time but I have been learning from your Random Throughts :-)

We will spend the new year celebrating with some friends that we have also not seen for some time….it’s Salsa Time..1, and 2 and 3 and 4…….

The cold weather has put me in the mood to sit around the fire place and cuddle with the one I love, however we don’t have a fire place anymore, whaz up with that. Christmas day was spent doing what my bride wanted to do, for the family to come together for breakfast at IHOP, bowling, go to a movie (Blind Side), then come home for a crock pot stew and spend the evening playing games as a family. That is what we did Christmas, however we haven’t even talked about New Years, except maybe going out and getting a pool table and setting it up. Trying to find a good deal on Craig’s List. So money in hand driving all over the countryside trying to find a table….

  6. Lady Julia says:

Wally, what did you think of Blind Side? I saw it and thought it was one of Sandra Bullock’s best roles. Her southern accent wasn’t great, but she did a really nice job with everything else.

  7. Lady Julia says:

Jay, oh my goodness I haven’t heard from you in forever :) I’m so glad you are doing well and that your family was all together at Christmas. That’s lovely :)

  8. Lady Julia says:

Poor fish :( Maybe you will have to make some interesting NY’s resolutions ;)

  9. Lady Julia says:

Mike, I may have one or two ideas for staying warm ;) That would make an interesting discussion…

I’m wanting to see Avatar. The problem is, all the good movies come out at the same time. Still, I think I will find the time as it sounds like it is best viewed in the theater.

  10. Lady Julia says:

FTW – hope you have fun with the dancing :) Poor puppy wants to move south!

  11. Wally says:

Lady Julia, You have got to be kidding me, she made my heart race and I went weak in the knees. The character that she played is my dream lady in life, and I am not a fan of Tim, but he did a great job in this movie as a supporting actor to Sandra. My Bride of 21 years is a lot like this character and it was funny to sit through a movie like this and giggle and my Bride knew exactly why I was laughing.

    Shy grins

  12. Lady Julia says:

She is most definitely a strong southern lady :) I think any man who is turned on by dominant women would enjoy Blind Side.

  13. Mike says:

If you do see Avatar, definitely see it in the theater. I don’t have the time to see all the movies I want either. So I tend to break them down to ones that would benefit from the big screen and those that I can get on pay per view.

What did you think of Invictus? I like Clint Eastwood as a director more than I like him as an actor. And I like him as an actor. Morgan Freeman is usually very good when Clint directs him.

Awaiting the thread on staying warm. :-)

The only plans I have for New Years, is to stay home, warm and dry. I am a bit ill -I got sick leave from work-, so no, no big plans… I wont even have my piña colada nights for a while.

But I wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

  15. Lady Julia says:

Miss R, I hope you feel better soon. Hugs.

Best wishes for a happy new year.

  16. Lady Julia says:

I really liked Invictus. It wasn’t what I expected, but it was quite good.

  17. Arafin says:

My New Year’s Eve plans are much the same as they have been since I was ten or twelve. Stay home and off the roads. Prior to that it was great to stay up late and watch the ball drop. My mum always made crabmeat sandwiches for some sort of traditional reason, and the best New Year’s we could remember was when the dogs ate every single one when we weren’t looking. We laughed and laughed.

Tomorrow I am in the chatroom till around 4 pm EST and then have to head up the mountain to help with a weekend meditation retreat. Hope I don’t have to cook. If it ever stops raining I may go for a walk. Or I may put on a raincoat and go anyway. Trouble is, the cats won’t accompany me if it’s pouring.

May your 2010 be filled with joy, good health, and deliciously decadent chocolate coated dreams.

    Arafin

  18. Lady Julia says:

Thank you Arafin :) I hope your new year brings much peace and far fewer worries. Hugs.
