Sex Ranks Higher Than Shopping and Gossiping – For Some

December 2nd, 2008

I know this is my second post today, but I couldn’t let Terrific Tush Tuesday pass unnoticed ;)  And since I was posting again anyway… just had to share this with you:

According to a recent YouGov survey, window shopping and gossiping didn’t rate as highly as sex in the “free activity” category.  I’m astounded to know they had to survey 2000 people to determine this.

Straight away I must question the validity of the numbers.  Of the Scots surveyed, 43 percent said oh yes, sex was their favorite of the free activities listed.  Doesn’t that make you wonder else made the list??  Only 35 percent of those living in Southern England deemed sex as numero uno.  I absolutely do not believe this is a valid survey – I have some very hot, very amorous English friends and I cannot imagine what would rank higher than sex for them ;)

More women surveyed apparently preferred sharing the scoop to sex (oh my, what does that say???) while men said, “Sex please!”

Wouldn’t you hate to be the person conducting one of these surveys?  If I were doing it via the phone or in person, I do not think I could keep the incredulity from my voice  or face when I heard someone say, “Oh yes, I got these perfectly gorgeous earrings on sale at Neiman-Marcus.  That’s sooooo much better than having sex!”  I think I would be forced to shift directly into advice-rendering mode ;)

Different segments of society have different mores as to whether sex is an appropriate topic for discussion — or even something one is supposed to privately admit to oneself that one enjoys. I’m not at all surprised the answers would vary with geography.

Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if the quality of sex varies by location. In my opinion, sex is likely to be far better in an area where the women are more spirited and expressive. Just based purely on stereotypes, I suspect the Scots experience better sex (on average) than the folks in southern England. Scottish women are perhaps on average more spirited, and Scottish men are perhaps more adventurous.

Well maybe shopping for sex toys;)

Not all women really love to shop.

I’ve started to dread my bi weekly pilgrimages to WalMart. I keep thinking in 10 years I’m going to be the one in the camouflage sweat pants, driving that motorized shopping cart, bitchin about the price of moon pies and yelling at the grandkids.

Still enjoy the Dollar store though. Was disappointed they didn’t have any Black Friday door buster specials.

“From 4am til 5 am everything is just 89 cents.”

Would have lined up for that.

Love the pic. I guess if you’re that cute you can leave your underwear on the floor.

I am obviously confused. I thought buying her those earrings at Nieman-Marcus was foreplay.

Okay, now Felix spawns a question in me. Do women *really* like jewelry as gifts? It has always seemed like such a cliche to me. I’ve felt that if I buy jewelry, it’s basically saying, “I couldn’t think of what you really wanted, so I bought you this cliche.”

Exception, of course, for jewelry that has a story behind it, such as the pair of earrings picked up while on a business trip somewhere, made locally where purchased. Kind of like bringing home chocolate if you’re in Bavaria.

FTW – umm – I don’t think jewelry is ever cliche ;) I don’t particularly care for expensive jewelry but I do like decent costume stuff. (I’d rather have 10 bracelets that cost $30 a piece than one bracelet that cost $300.) I love bracelets and earrings especially.

I also like some vintage jewelry.

It is difficult to buy jewelry for someone, though, isn’t it? I remember once I wanted a particular ring in the worst way so I cut out a picture of it from an advertisement, wrote my ring size on it, and taped it to the bathroom mirror. Worked like a charm :)

And Felix – you are definitely right! Little surprises that are sparkley can fairly often lead to seriously fun things :)

Suzette, so completely with you about shopping. My current shopping fascination is going to Rite Aid on Sundays and buying the “free” things. (You buy and then they refund the purchase price). Mom and I buy things we don’t even want and just give them to the local Help Office. It’s the thrill of the bargain we love!
